Final lace thoughts and Marylin musings

The lace is packed and ready to go.

I will miss this project as it was a joy to knit. The yarn from Wagtail yarns was great to work with; the sheen is impossible to photograph and it feels so soft - it banished all thoughts of previous icky mohair and I'm already plotting what I can do with the rest of the skein (and how to get more sent to me).

The pattern was the Rippling Waters Scarf designed by Dorothy Siemens, Fiddlesticks Knitting and was a real treat to work from, well written instructions and very clear charts - exactly what I have come to expect from Dorothy.

In my recent non-knitting days , I have finally sewn together the Marylin sweater that I knitted earlier this year. I tried it on and was stunned to get a compliment from Matt - however after about 30 minutes of wear I had to take it off and will need to make some adjustments! The collar slides right off of my shoulders and the weight of the sleeves almost drags it off - not a look I want to cultivate!!

Rather than do a major remake I'm considering knitting either 2 short straps to go inside the neckline and over my shoulders to hold the thing on or 2 triangular sections to give me a more built up inner section(if that makes sense?) . Any views?

Hi I knitted 2 Marilyns for both my daughters. I cursed the finished garments and frogged one and sent one to the charity shop. I thought the pattern great, daughters liked it BUT it would not sit on their shoulders, kept falling off and they moaned so much and refused to wear them! In retrospect I reckon it was pinned or sellotaped to the model. All in all the most depressing and disapointing internet pattern I ever found. I never thought of a fix I was just so fed up with the time wasted. Hope your fix works.

Could you wear it with a strappy top underneath?

Also you could run a ring of inch-wide cotton herringbone tape around the inside of the fold and just tack it to the knitting. This would be invisible but would stop it stretching any more than you wanted to.

is marilyn the one from an old issue of IK, in DB cashmerino chunky, with a huge cable up the front, and a very wide boat neck? I've done this and am going to probably frog it, as the neckline drives me ****ing mad! it's fine on the model bare shoulders, et al, but too warm and thck for bare shoulders. i have no idea if what you are saying will work and look ok. i have no idea if this is the actual pattern, actually!
dawn:) back at work and reckless on the computer!

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you Yvonne.

I can purchase for you whatever you want whenever you want it from Wagtail. I will certainly be buying some for me once cash begins to appear again in my bank account - which is looking rather sad after the sales at our local "little girls' clothing shops", as if Christmas wasn't enough!
