Nupp said!

A huge sigh of relief as I finish the last of the nupps on the Swallowtail Shawl! I've discovered that I detest p5tog with 2ply alpaca, I kept getting fluff mistaken for stitches.

This pattern was great until the start of the Lily of the Valley sections when I could not get the patterns to work out. Frantic calls to friends led to them also being confused. Emails were exchanged with Interweave Knits and their responses were just as confusing. The light eventually came on when I realised that although the sections on the pattern were marked as repeats they actually moved over a stitch every two rows - solution - pull the stitchmarkers out and just go for it!

There's just 16 rows to go before this is finished, i hope there's no more nasty surprises

Hi Yvonne,

I don't know how you keep sane doing those complex shawls... I finally started on my first lace project with kidsilk haze... it's like cobwebs.

Sad to hear you can't make NEC, hope to see you at Harrogate!

Hello Yvonne,

I am also working on the swallow tail shawl, and my nupps are very inconsistent. I use knitpicks baby alpaca (very slippery). Sometimes I manage to p5tog, and sometimes I slip the stitches over each other. I read somewhere to use a crochet hook, but just could not make it work for me. I finished the 1st lily of the valley repeat, but don't feel inclined to start the 2d one. But of course, then it will be finished, and i will have a nice shawl.

Thank you! I've just finished a shawl that's been on the wip list for 5 months, and am ready to tackle the swallowtail. (Well I'm halfway through the first pattern).
