The Knitters Casket

This is my little book

what you can't see on the cover is the words imprinted on each side - they are Patience, Application, Industry and Perseverance. On the inside I found this quote -I'd love to know where this comes from

"With twining bones enweaved; of finest thredde
Now drawne ascaunt yet eftsoons showing faire
In curious wyse theire hosen they prepare"

The preface also states

" we are but skirmishers at the outposts, experimentalists in the family parlour, well aware there are others in the cabinet or the laboratory who dig deeper into the science; and rejoicing in the results of their labours, we do not the less hope our own humble efforts may not be considered valueless"

Those victorians had a neat turn of phrase.

Wow, Yvonne--just catching up on my blog reading, and I have to say that I COVET THAT BOOK. How delicious! I've never seen anything like it!

Hope you're all drying out over there; we are in the midst of the worst dry spell and 104-degree heat I've ever seen. Crispy, we are.

I like the virtues... and being an experimentalist in the parlour! Great treasure you have there!

Yvonne what a treasure! And what lovely words too. Sometimes I do feel like I'm "just a knitter" , especially when people ask what your hobbies are. Others may say potholing, skiing, bungee jumping, skydiving, ahem .... knitting. :-) Love Helen
