Family Time

It's been a funny week here as I've struggled with a chest infection, I was hoping it would be cleared for the weekend as Mum and sister Kate were coming to London for belated birthday celebrations.

The idea was originally proposed back in September to celebrate Mum's 75th birthday, then Kate had a fall and has been ill for months as a result. We tried to organize it for February to coincide with Kate's birthday but couldn't get theatre tickets for the show we wanted on dates that we could all attend.

This week was Matt's birthday and he received this book which includes 20 uses for a knitting needle!

So I didn't feel left out Kate gave me an early birthday present - a very funky walking stick with metallic red and purple swirls!

I finally managed to get tickets to see Billy Elliot, find a good hotel at a very reasonable price and get all our work schedules to match up our free time.

So we had a fun day yesterday which started early enough to avoid the big march in London, spent the afternoon at the theatre laughing , crying and enjoying the ballet ( I grew up in a mining community and Mum was a dancing teacher so the play was especially relevant) and then went back to the hotel for a wonderful meal and cocktails.

Today started with an enormous breakfast and then a gentle stroll around
Regent's Park. Mum and Kate enjoyed the sun in Queen Mary's Rose Garden (memo to self - come back when they are in flower)

The spring flowers were beautiful

I fell for these strange objects - anyone tell me what they are?

Oh and I cast on some new knitting - Ishbel by Ysolda Teague using Sundara's fingering silky merino in a colour called Flaming Flamingo, there will be photos once I make some progress!

Lovely to see you last weekend - thanks for increasing my stash too.
Oh yes, and I've got Raj coming to me from across the pond.
Sounds like a lovely weekend had by all: I'd love to see Billy Elliott live...

It all sounds fabulous - isn't it also wonderful to see Spring as well. So what are the 20 uses for a knitting needle? Does it include cake-tester? - can't beat a knitting needle for that

I think those strange stumps at the water's edge are what remains of gunnera when it's died down over the winter. It should start to sprout enormous leaves soon...

Sounds like a lovely weekend! I've knitted a scarf-size Ishbel and it's a really nice pattern - will probably knit the larger size at some point. Love from the Shawl-Obsessed Knitter X
