Northern views

We had such great plans for our week away, far too many places to explore in such a short time! We enjoyed days pottering up and down the coast and on our last day we'd planned to visit Bamburgh, including the Grace Darling Museum followed by a visit to Alnwick Gardens and Barter Books.

We woke to find the world shrouded in fog so thick we could barely see 10 yards in front of us. We went to the Grace Darling museum where I was intrigued by the construction of an antimacassar that she'd made - it looked like a mix of mitred knitting and netting. A walk around the churchyard provided images that might just spur me into knitting some cables!

When we arrived in Alnwick the fog had really closed in, these were the flowers in a tub outside the Gardens ticket office

as I took that photo the rain started again so we headed off to Barter Books - a fascinating store but after a few hours we left empty handed ( they only had one knitting book and I already have two copies of it!!)

We headed out of town on a B-road and crept our way along a road with many dips and turns until we found Edlingham and it's castle - a serenely beautiful spot in the mists.

Everywhere we went we found pussy willow

Matt had to clear catkins from the car every morning and we are still finding them in nooks and crannies on the car.

Our holiday was spent at Budle Falls in Waren Mill and was exactly what we both needed for the peace and quiet, I'd love to go back there again. We enjoyed watching the chickens in the garden, the ducks on the river and our final evening was spent in the top field with "the girls" - jacob sheep who are due to lamb this weekend.
