The journey home featured a meander along Hadrian's Wall - I can't believe how much work has been done to preserve this since I lived up here in the 1970"s- my only regret is that we weren't there the week before to experience the wall being lit up.
Some of the views were stunning, the landscape colours were so inspiring I'm almost tempted to get the dye pots out. We stopped for lunch at Vindolanda and attempted to walk around the site - I say attempt as the area was hilly and the arthritis was bad! I managed fairly well and Matt only had to give me a pull on one section climbing back up from the museum
This small courtyard had a wonderful fountain, the trees had wind chimes and I could quite happily have sat there knitting if it wasn't for the school party eating their sandwiches there!
A small section of the wall and it's history - Matt enjoyed the fact that the sign was also written in Latin
This tranquil spot was just a step too far for me - I'd never have got back up the hill, still I could admire the view whilst Matt explored.
Why had I let it be 35 years since I visited Northumbria? I want to go back, preferably when it's slightly warmer and for a longer visit
ps there was knitting done - there might even be photos!
