There has been progress on the baby blanket front - the first one has been completed and gifted to it's new owner without a photograph being taken. It was a simple crochet granny square made with Sirdar Tiny Tots and took 4 days to produce -speed was of the essence as the baby stopped my procrastination by arriving a few weeks early!
So , instead of learning my lesson from this and cracking on with the next blanket needed by mid-February I decided to be contrary..
I bought "Knitted Jackets" by Cheryl Oberle and love so many patterns in it that I didn't just cast on for one, I had to cast on for two!
Rachel's Jacket is my "at home" knitting using two strands of mohair to produce a simple but warm jacket. My version uses Noro Silk Mountain and Rowan Kid Silk Spray - both bought in the I Knit LOndon sale.
The second project is Cusco using the remainder of the Artesano ALpaca that I bought when I knit Linden - that pattern so seriously over-estimated the yarn needed that I think I'll get Cusco out of it without buying more yarn!
I'm tempted by other jackets in the book especially by one that needs steeks - I have an aversion to cutting good wool - after all how can I recycle all those short lengths if I don't like the finished article.
Photos will follow at some stage when I find where the new camera/computer cable is hiding!
ps The plant is a Purple Velvet plant - we found the original tag!
Just to prove that knitting does take place occasionally here is the hat I knitted on xmas day - not a very good photo but it's hard to take a picture of your own head! I really must buy a model head!
Pattern is Urchin by Ysolda and was a real pleasure to knit. The yarn was an xmas gift from one of my sisters, unlabelled and bought at a local craft show in East Yorkshire

The baby blanket season has started with this
the yarn is from stash and has no labels and I now remember why I stuck it there it splits like mad! This is the total of two weeks commuter knitting, I want something more brainless when I get home at night and the weekend is reserved for finishing a bulkier project soon to be revealed.
The Little Scarf is knitted from a pattern by Charlene Schurch and the yarn is a mix of Alpaca/Merino dyed by Dicentra Designs. Lovely to work with though the colour is more orange than the red shown here.
Can any of you plant lovers give me a clue as to what this is? I love the colour, shape and texture of the leaves and am trying to grow one from a cutting off of this original
Where did the time go?
Matt and I had a quiet christmas in Wales, much of which was spent reclined on the sofa, foot in the air, knitting my xmas presents. My sister had found me some handdyed roving which quickly knitted up into the Urchin hat by Ysolda Teague.
One of my friends had sent me a kit for a Little Scarf and the alpaca/merino mix yarn was a joy to work with. I loved knitting this as it was on large needles and had a simple 4 row pattern - 3 of which were garter stitch. The scarf has been worn every day since it was finished so I'll have to take it off soon and take it's photo!
There is no real excuse for lack of photos as Matt bought me a great camera for xmas. I'm trying to learn how to use it. Other presents included some new cookery books which are keeping me inspired in the kitchen and some fantastic items knitted by friends - all of which have now been worn and much admired by others. There was also wonderful yarn that I'm looking forward to using.
I have deadline knitting to do but am not good at remaining monogamous to any one project so the weekdays are for the deadline stuff and the weekends are for the fun stuff.
How do you organise your knitting time?
