Matt & I escaped for the weekend - we didn't decide until Friday night that we wanted to get out of London so I spent a hasty few minutes on the internet checking out where there were kite festivals and found one at Exmouth. Then came the B&B search which revealed a bed available at Chi and that was the clincher!
We spent Saturday afternoon watching the kites and I took this photo of the Serpents using my iPhone with the Hipstamatic app and got the effect I was looking for with the first shot.
A Kite Festival for us is a bit like me going to a knitting group - we always know someone to talk to, catch up on news of other friends etc, Matt has had to promise to fly a kite next weekend on Blackheath.
Chi was wonderful, they remembered us from our holiday last year and the food was even better than we remembered - Dim Sum for breakfast helped us through the day.
We spent the morning with the kites and then moved on to the beach and joined my Aunt Jackie and Uncle Mickie at their new beach hut. They are moving into a new flat next week so we got to see the outside of the new property and a chance to check out how Uncle is doing as he was too ill to attend Una's funeral.
A leisurely drive home with the sat nav set to avoid motorways meant we saw some delightful villages, woodlands and pubs we'd like to go back and visit - I think we need to escape more often!
Yesterday was Una's funeral - a lovely service in beautiful surroundings. The crematorium had two chapels and she would have got a kick out of watching the people at the other service - lots of motorbikes, crazy outfits and very mixed group of mourners - we were quite a dull group in comparison. As always at these events you get to meet family you haven't seen for years and I found out that whilst I'd been doing family research down my grandmothers line my cousin Michael has been doing grandfathers - we plan to swap notes and combine them.
We have a new addition to the family Una's great-granddaughter was born this morning and is doing very well, the family are ecstatic!
I'm off to rummage through the baby patterns to find something to knit - any pattern suggestions?
